Background and industry experience

Richard is a qualified Building Surveyor with in excess of 25 years' experience in the Construction Industry and heads up Fisher German's Planning, Construction & Development Team. His key strengths include long term relationships with private and corporate clients and identifying new opportunities for maximising value and ensuring best practice.

Recent commissions associated with the Boston Barrier, Post Office Limited, the Salvation Army, the Ministry of Justice, English Funding Agency (Schools) and the Co-operative have furthered his knowledge and ability to deliver framework commissions and manage multiple site projects. Richard is also Managing Director of UKBS Plc, Fisher German's joint venture company, which provides building consultancy services for specific clients and where building surveying programmes demand increased resource.

Richard remains 'hands on' and currently is acting as Employer's Agent for a residential conversion and new build project and the redevelopment of an office site in the Midlands. He continues to undertake survey work in his role as an expert witness and in preparing dilapidation schedules and party wall awards.

Outside of work, when time allows, he enjoys (watching) all sport, particularly rugby and playing the occasional game of cricket and golf. Always keen to see new places, Richard likes to travel, but is equally at home digging the garden!

About me

What year did you start your job?
Started at Fisher German in December 1998 as the only Building Surveyor in the Practice.

Why did you join Fisher German?
I wanted to move back to the Midlands and avoid the 'joys' of regularly travelling up and down the M42 and M40. Fisher German also gave me the opportunities to develop my career.

What has been your favourite project and why?
Being part of the central project team that delivered a multiple site (in excess of 200 properties) roll out programme, re-branding outlets for a national organisation. The project completed within the £40million budget set and approximately three months ahead of schedule. The 'after project' celebratory dinner was also memorable!

Most admired, non-property brand?
Guinness for obvious reasons - strong brand and great product.

Top pastime?
A few - watching rugby, playing golf and cricket and, surprisingly, DIY and gardening.

South Africa
