Background and industry experience

Matthew works within the team based at Hungerford for one of Fisher German's pipeline clients; Esso Petroleum Company Ltd. Joining the firm in 2014, his principle role was to raise awareness of the cross country fuel pipelines with the owners and occupies of land and the procedures for working safely near them. More recently, Matthew has been coordinating the inspection and repairs programme across the Esso pipeline network. Working closely with the client and their contractors, this has involved engaging with landowners and other stakeholders to ensure the safe and effective delivery of the programme including the settling of compensation claims. In 2018, Matthew will be working on the wider Esso contract which will include project management, licencing, third party works and team management.

Matthew attended Seale-Hayne Agricultural College, studying Rural Resource Management and Agriculture. He worked on various arable and livestock farms in the UK, New Zealand and Australia before commencing a 14 year career in the management of public rights of way. Originally from Suffolk, Matthew now lives in Hampshire with his wife and three children. He enjoys all things outdoors and regularly plays five a side football.

Why did you join Fisher German?
Having been working in Local Government for 14 years, I felt it was time for a fresh challenge. Surprisingly, there are many similarities between managing public rights of way and the cross country pipelines, mainly they are linear routes across generally private land, predominantly in agricultural management. Whist unlike footpaths the pipeline routes are not always obvious, land managers must still be aware of them and their responsibilities when managing the land around them. Although not knowing too much about Fisher German, it was clear that this was a growing professional firm, willing to invest in staff so as to provide a high quality service to their clients.
