Applications have now opened for our summer internship scheme, perfect for those for those eager to get hands-on surveying experience and discover what it’s like to work with us. The paid placements, lasting up to 12 weeks, are available to students in their first or second year at university or those about to start a postgraduate course.
At Fisher German, we are dedicated to recruiting the best talent and our exceptional training programmes ensure all our early careers talent reach their full potential. We understand the value of practical work experience in gaining a deeper understanding of the profession.
Mo Cox, our Early Careers Talent Advisor, said: “Our summer internship scheme helps undergraduates define their career goals. We hope that these opportunities will enable participants to develop their skills and gain a better understanding of the industry, helping them decide what they want to achieve in their careers.”
We spoke to some of our colleagues who have completed a summer internship to hear how it benefitted them. Harriet Cooper, a graduate surveyor in our rural property management team, completed two 8-week internships during her summer breaks. She said: “Everything from start to finish was so easy, making the process much less daunting. Clear communication with the early careers team made to feel at ease. I immediately got the feeling that Fisher German fosters a culture where you can thrive and reach your full potential.
“The summer internship allowed me to experience surveying in a practical and realistic setting. While university provided great background knowledge, seeing it applied in real-life situations helped deepen my understanding of the industry. I was fortunate to gain experience in two different areas, which gave me well-rounded exposure to various responsibilities across different sectors.
“My expectations were exceeded by the summer internship. Instead of shadowing the team, I was given tasks and responsibilities that allowed me to experience the working world of a surveyor first-hand. This practical experience, under the guidance of knowledgeable and supportive surveyors, was invaluable.”
Graduate Surveyor, Molly Fowles, who completed a summer internship in 2022 and now works in our valuations team, said: “The early careers team were very supportive throughout the process. I wanted to apply my university learning in a real-world environment, and the summer placement allowed me to gain invaluable experience.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the work and loved the culture of Fisher German. I am looking forward to continuing to grow my knowledge and experience of all things infrastructure as I work towards passing my APC.”
Associate, William Davies, who works in our infrastructure team, completed a summer internship before joining us as a graduate in 2020. He said: “Initially, I was interested in the rural sector, but after my internship, I found I was better suited to the utilities sector. The summer internship was invaluable in helping me understand more about the surveying industry and its broad range of sectors.”
Since joining us, Will has been involved with a variety of projects across a broad range of clients and has qualified as a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and is now a Fellow of The Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV). He is now part of our early careers team, focusing on early careers training.
Sam Peters, who did a summer internship in our Worcester in 2022, returned to our London office in 2023 on our commercial rotations graduate programme. He said: “The summer internship provided valuable insights into commercial property and how to effectively manage a working week. It supported my final year of studies at university without requiring a year out. I was treated as a graduate and given the responsibility to explore and manage my own work, with excellent mentorship from surveyors and partners.
“Being exposed to partners daily allowed me to learn from them, and doing a summer internship made it much easier to return as a graduate since I already knew some of the team.”
Mo added: “I am looking forward to meeting all this year’s interns. As always, we are dedicated to ensuring their development and progression within the business. Every one of them will be supported to do their best while they are at Fisher German.”
Applications for the 2025 summer internship are now open and close for applications at 4pm on 31st March 2025.
