We recently joint-hosted a natural capital seminar at Withers office on Old Bailey, in London to discuss the challenges being faced by the UK rural land market and look at how we can collectively support our clients to overcome the challenges they face from a combination of legislative, societal, and moral pressures to offset their carbon outputs.

The informative, hour-long seminar focussed on the ever-evolving natural capital market and delivered industry-leading insights into natural capital and environmental Social Governance (ESG) highlighting the challenges being faced during the journey to build a sustainable society that balances the environment, energy creation and food security.

The session, attended by around 70 guests, was chaired by Bertie Hoskyns Abrahall from Withersworldwide,. The panel was made up of our natural capital expert Alex Watts, Head of Agribusiness, David Kinnersley and Head of Farm Agency, Richard Gadd.

Speakers covered topics such as the emerging but ever-growing natural capital and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) market, the changing face of agricultural support payments and the compounding impact that these are having on the rural land market.

The session included a debate on the topics of taxation, and the level of supply and demand for such land and debated where the market will be in the coming years.
