The Crown 1
One of our planners, Nia Borsey, led the planning application process to bring a former Anglesey pub back to life that was once at the heart of the community. Work can now begin after the conditions of the planning application were completed at The Crown Hotel, in Bodedern, which is scheduled to re-open in the summer of 2024 after closing its doors in 2018.

Once open, The Crown will create 20 new jobs in the village and the building will undergo extensive refurbishment and be extended to feature a pub, an Indian restaurant and three apartments. Outdoor eating areas will also be created.
Nia said: “We are extremely pleased that the conditions of the planning application have been discharged, meaning work can now begin. A lot of local people have very fond memories of the pub, so this development will bring a much-loved and much-missed historic community asset back into use.

“The applicants also own the village shop and have undertaken extensive engagement with the local community, so they understand there is a real need for this. As well as the pub and restaurant, the building will include three apartments which will provide small dwellings in an area which features predominantly large family homes. It is hoped that the apartments, along with the jobs being created, will encourage young people to remain in the area. Sustainability was another key focus of the application, and the car park includes an electric charging point and secure bicycle storage unit, and a bus stop is located just outside.

“The development will also include bilingual signage, and the applicant has committed to supporting the retention of the Welsh language in the village. We now look forward to seeing the development take shape ahead of the venue’s opening next summer.”
