We are thrilled that our natural capital and sustainable energy experts have been invited to speak at this year’s Farm Business Innovation Show. The show provides a unique platform for landowners and farmers, rural businesses, entrepreneurs, and country house owners to find the inspiration, resources, and advice they need to diversify, innovate, and generate additional from their land.

Diversification is nothing new; more than 60% of farmers have already ventured into alternative enterprises. However, despite such popularity, many schemes have stalled due to restrictions such as planning, feasibility, lack of market knowledge, and a reluctance to risk all hampering development.

Alex Watts, an Associate in our property management and consultancy team, is involved with our natural capital team. She leads the development and ongoing management of The Green Offset, a simple platform which brings together those seeking land-to-site natural capital schemes with landowners willing to explore these opportunities. Alex said “We provide a wide range of services from planning to renewable energy to guidance on the latest emerging opportunities within natural capital. We hope to be able to share our learnings from being at the forefront of these markets and advise land and business owners on the opportunities which are available to them.”

Tom Beeley, an Associate in our sustainable energy team, said: “External influences have brought much change to agricultural business in recent years and with fluctuations in farm incomes, many farm businesses are having to consider alternative ways to generate an additional source of income. We are urging landowners to find out more about how our bespoke brokerage platform can assist them in these emerging natural capital markets. Registering on The Green Offset shows that they are potentially open to discussion and negotiation about siting an environmental scheme on their land.”

Laura Jane Taylor, our Marketing Manager, said “Last year the show provided a great platform to network and we look forward to talking to both existing and new clients again. It will be great to offer advice and promote our wide range of services. The seminar will provide an update on our natural capital work and we will share our learnings and thoughts from being at the forefront of an evolving market over the last few years. We will cover biodiversity net gain, nutrient neutrality, soil carbon, and how legislation and policy change can impact, but also provide an opportunity for, landowners.”
