People in office 2

At Fisher German, we are passionate about delivering a great experience for all our colleagues, helping them to thrive and become the best version of themselves. We pride ourselves on genuinely attracting and retaining the best talent. Learning at Work Week takes place from 15 to 21 May 2023 and helps promote lifelong learning at work. This year’s theme is ’Create the Future’, so we took this opportunity to speak to Partner and Head of Rural and Residential Valuations, Helena Tibbitts, to find out more about her career journey and where she sees the future of Fisher German.

Helena joined us in 2006 after working in London following her graduation from Exeter University. Out of work Helena enjoys photography and horse riding and from an early age had a passion for property but didn’t realise that’s where her career would take her at the time.

You’ve been at Fisher German for many years, what do you think the secret is to your success?

It must be my adaptability. I have undertaken various roles over the years and being adaptable and flexible has enabled me to make the most out of any challenges and opportunities that were being presented to me.

What do you think is the secret to our success?

We have undergone a period of rapid growth over the past few years and as a result, we now offer a diverse and complementary range of services. We are in a good place to embrace the continuous technological advances that impact the markets and the work we undertake to continue to meet our client’s ever-changing needs.

We get a lot of repeat business, what do you think we are doing right?

We have local knowledge and a national presence which puts us in a good place to understand our client’s needs. Our people are our greatest asset, we have some very talented people with a real desire to drive the business forward and achieve success

How do you think we support our people to progress?

We have a first-class learning and development team, and we really do care about having the best people working for us, the team work hard to ensure that they are provided with the tools they need to be the best they can be. We have a very inclusive culture, and we accept that having a diverse team is important for our future development. We want to provide a workplace where every individual can flourish. If you have the drive there is always the support available to help you achieve your full potential.

What is the best thing about your role?

I think it is the variety of work I get to do. I am known for plate-spinning both at home and at work and I wouldn’t have it any other way! I have a great team around me whom I can trust to deliver exceptional client results.

Given your experience, what have been the most enjoyable things you have done and why?

Completing our Pathway to Partnership programme was a real career high for me. It really pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I had to self-reflect which enabled me to develop personally and professionally. It’s not all work though, one of the most rewarding experiences I had was completing the Coast-to-Coast cycle challenge with my team in Stafford. We tackled driving rain and steep inclines across the Pennines to get to the finish line, we were raising money for Water Aid, so it was worth being part of!

What do the next 12 months have in store for you?

Professionally, I hope to continue to be an inspiring role model by playing my part in facilitating the continued success of the firm.

When you were a child what did you want to be?

I don’t know as I changed my mind almost on a daily basis! I did enjoy flicking through a copy or two of Country Life magazine looking at all the properties so maybe that’s where it all started!

What do we need to be future-fit?

We have always received a lot of repeat business and I think this is because we always put our clients first and provide a high-quality service. We need to continue doing the same, we have changed a lot over the last few years, and we now have a fantastic multidisciplinary offering. We have a growing team of experts and I think it is important for us to retain the positive cultural roots of the firm whilst we embrace the benefits of being a larger organisation. I am hugely excited about where our firm can go with the exceptional talent we have constantly joining our existing team of experts.
