Background and industry experience

After an undergraduate degree in Classics from Durham University, Hugh completed the distance learning diploma in surveying through the College of Estate Management then qualified as a chartered surveyor in 2003 with a small firm in North Shropshire, where he originates. He then worked for a regional firm in Somerset for five years before joining Fisher German. He qualified as a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers in 2007.

Hugh is a partner in the Knutsford office and carries out a range of work, including valuation of rural and residential property, acting as an expert witness, development land promotion, estate management and compulsory purchase. He is heavily involved in providing advice to clients on HS2.

Why did you join Fisher German?
I took the opportunity to be part of the success story and grow my career with Fisher German.

What has been your favourite project and why?
Taking on the management of the Tatton Estate, near Knutsford. The previous agents had been managing the estate for more than 60 years, so it was quite a change for all concerned. We built a new team at Fisher German, grew our knowledge of the estate and continue to strive to improve our service to our clients.

Top pastime?
More or less anything as long as it's outdoors: sailing, walking, running, cycling, body boarding, coasteering, beagling, gardening, etc

Best holiday destination?
South Africa

The last one I watched is my current favourite: Darkest Hour
