Clapping hands
One of our surveyors in Newark has made the step up to lead an influential industry networking group to share best practices among professionals. Philip Padgett, Assistant Surveyor has become Chair of the Eastern Branch of the Pipeline Industries Guild’s (PIG) Professional Development Network (PDN) which aims to give rising stars in the industry the development and networking they need to succeed.

The PDN regularly holds events like site visits to major pipeline projects to hear from experts in a particular field, networking events, and the annual paper competition where professionals give presentations on topics related to their work to a panel of judges.

Philip had previously been deputy chair before being voted in as full chair when his predecessor stepped down. He will now remain chair of the branch until January 2025. He is looking forward to increasing collaboration as much as possible in the Eastern branch of the Guild through new memberships and more events.

He said: “My immediate focus as Chair is to grow and develop the Eastern Branch and encourage people from all sides of the industry to join. The knowledge-sharing and networking opportunities that the PDN and the Guild provide are second to none within our industry, and I’ve already learned so much in the time I’ve been a member.

“Through the PDN, professionals in the industry can learn from the best and make connections that will hold them in good stead when they experience an unexpected problem in the future. Having that ability to reach out, even in an informal sense, to a fellow professional for help can be invaluable.

“I’m delighted to have made the step up to become Chair, and I hope I leave the branch in a strong position at the end of my tenure.”
