On Friday 21 November, hundreds of twinkling lights were lit in memory and celebration of loved ones in the annual St Richard's Hospice Lights of Love campaign in Worcester. Two heartfelt and uplifting Lights of Love services were also held at Worcester Cathedral.
The afternoon service featured the Kings Hawford choir, while the RGS Senior School Choir performed in the evening. Following the evening service, there was a procession to St Andrew’s Spire, where the Lights of Love tree was lit, accompanied by music from the Worcester Salvation Army.
St Richard’s has been hosting Lights of Love events in Worcestershire for over twenty years. and we have supported this festive charity event for the last seven years. Everyone is welcome to dedicate a light in memory or celebration of a loved one, regardless of their connection to St Richard’s.
Laura Clarke, Hospice Campaigns Fundraiser, said, “It’s that time of year when we tend to reflect on all those wonderful people who have made a difference to our lives, particularly those who are loved and no longer with us. Our Lights of Love services and switch on event hold a special place in hearts across our community.
The names of those being remembered will be displayed around St Andrew’s Spire and published in the Worcester News on Christmas Eve if desired. Anyone can dedicate a light online or by calling the Fundraising Team at 01905 958262. Supporters who dedicate and donate online will also have their message and photo displayed on the St Richard’s online dedication webpage.

St Richard’s Hospice is an independent charity providing free, expert care for adults with incurable illnesses, and support for their loved ones and carers. Each year, the hospice team supports over 3,100 patients, family members, and bereaved individuals in Worcestershire. The hospice costs around £12 million annually, covering patient care and essential support services. St Richard’s relies on voluntary support, including donations, gifts in Wills, retail, and events for most of its income, with the remainder funded by the NHS.
