Last week, our colleagues from the Worcester office took on their leg of our Big 25 Challenge after receiving the baton from our team in Exeter.
Their journey will take them to our High Wycombe office via our Thame Office and will involve horse-riding, canoeing, pedal tractors, walking, hiking, cycling and running travelling over 117 miles over six days.
The Worcester team has chosen Acorns Children’s Hospice as its beneficiary which supports babies, children and young people with life limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families across the Three Counties and West Midlands regions.
The charity provides a mix of short breaks and palliative end of life care at its three hospices in Worcester, Birmingham and Walsall, as well as in the community through its outreach services.
In the last 12 months, Acorns has supported 780 children and over 1,000 families including those who are bereaved.
It costs £13 million a year to run Acorns’ hospices and outreach services with one third of their income coming from statutory funding from the Government Children's Hospice grant, and the remaining amount through fundraising.
The Thame office has chosen The Red Kite Family Centre in the town as their nominated charity which supports children and families in Thame and the surrounding villages by hosting activities and groups, advice sessions and courses.
Associate Partner, Greg Collings, who leads the planning team at Fisher German’s Worcester office, said the funds raised would help Acorns Children’s Hospice and The Red Kite Family Centre which both provided vital services throughout the area.
He said: “We are starting our fundraising adventure by walking to Acorns Children’s Hospice via its shop in Worcester where we will meet their mascot, Alex the Acorn.
“We then have a combination of a whole different ways of travelling to our Thame and High Wycombe offices which includes cycling and canoeing which is sure to be great fun.
“When we start the Thame leg, we will be waved off by the team from The Red Kite Family Centre and we will be doing a lap of their garden on children’s tractors and trikes.
“We will have the backing of colleagues in support vehicles as well, so it is a real team effort.
“It is fantastic that we have already reached our fundraising target, but we are determined to continue raising as much money as possible to benefit all the charities who have been chosen as part of our Big 25 challenge.”
Sian Timmins, Partnership Fundraising Manager at Acorns Children's Hospice, said: “We are thrilled and honoured that Acorns has been chosen as the charity partner for Fisher German’s Worcester office. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate 25 years of Fisher German, and we’re so excited to be part of it.
“The funds raised will make a real and lasting difference to the lives of children with life limiting and life-threatening conditions across the Three Counties and West Midlands, and to their families when they need us most.”
Previous legs of the challenge have seen colleagues travel by tandem bikes and unicycles, swim across open water, paddleboard and even sail as part of the mammoth 2,400-mile journey between the offices.
