A new summer placement student in our infrastructure land rights & consultancy team in Newark has marked the start of her career journey with Fisher German by taking on one of Norfolk’s toughest charity endurance events.

Holly Lloyd-Edwards recently completed the Norfolk Superhero alongside teammate Oscar Harrison, tackling a demanding quadrathlon at Burnham Overy Staithe on the North Norfolk coast. The event challenges pairs to complete a 1-mile swim, 4-mile kayak, 45-mile cycle and 8-mile run across sea, creeks, roads, tracks, sand and mud, all while raising vital funds for Norfolk-based charities.

The challenge came during a busy period for Holly, who balanced four months of training across all four disciplines with finishing university and beginning her placement at Fisher German.

For Holly, the appeal of the event went beyond the physical challenge. She said: “The Norfolk Superhero is an incredible event which was started 20 years ago by two Norfolk community members and has since grown into one of Norfolk’s most embedded and respected charity fundraising events.

“It is an event that you do in pairs, representing the strength a team has in supporting each other through physical and mental challenges. It shows the power of your community and what you can achieve when people come together to try and make a positive difference. That sense of community carried through the whole day, with friends, families, organisers and volunteers creating a memorable atmosphere.”

Holly and Oscar finished the course in 5 hours and 10 minutes, securing third place in the mixed pair category and sixth overall out of 58 teams.

Holly added: “It was incredibly tough, mentally and physically, but was such a rewarding challenge on so many fronts. I was most apprehensive about the open-water sea swim, but it ended up being an opportunity to face my fears.

The most important part of the event is that the Norfolk Superhero has a special environment and a heart centred around the spirit of being a community superhero.”

The Norfolk Superhero raises funds through the Norfolk Superhero Fund in partnership with Norfolk Community Foundation, supporting projects that help children and young people across Norfolk access sport, outdoor activities and active hobbies.

The same determination is now being channelled into Holly’s new role at Fisher German. Having graduated from Newcastle University with a BA (Hons) in Politics and International Relations, the Lincolnshire-based placement student is looking forward to developing her knowledge of the infrastructure sector and learning from colleagues across the business.

She said: “This has been a career shift for me, and I am excited to learn more about the industry and to absorb all of the expertise within the firm. I hope to settle into this role and pursue an APC pathway to eventually qualify as a surveyor and invest myself in the industry.”

Holly and Oscar have already  raised £375 and  you can support them by donating here.
