Clean Planet Energy (CPE), the cleantech, renewable and alternative energy company, has appointed us to help them identify and purchase up to ten sites to create a nationwide network of advanced recycling facilities, also known as ecoPlants.

This joint venture, in partnership with Crossroads Real Estate, CPE has been able to secure its first site in Teesside which is already under construction. CPE is targeting 15-acre sites with up to 5MV power supply in industrial locations across the North West, South Wales, South West, Yorkshire, Midlands and South of England. Sites have already been identified in Lincolnshire, Gloucestershire, Lancashire, and South Wales.

The new ecoPlants will be able to convert non-recyclable and hard to recycle waste plastic into ultra-low sulphur fuels to replace fossil fuels in the transport and heavy machinery sectors and into circular petrochemical feedstocks, including Naptha, which can be used to make new plastic products without requiring refineries to use fossil-based feedstock.

Each ecoPlant is designed to process over 20,000 tonnes of waste plastic a year. When fully operational, CPE’s national network of advanced recycling facilities will repurpose over 200,000 tonnes of hard to recycle waste plastic each year, for use in the circular supply-chain. In addition, CPE’s ultra-low sulphur diesel will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from traditional diesel usage, by almost 75%. The UK generates more than two million tonnes of plastic waste each year, of which 60% cannot be recycled.

Group CEO at CPE, Bertie Stephens said: “Our mission is to remove over 1 million tonnes of non-recyclable plastic waste from our environment every year. When fully operational, our national network of 10 ecoPlants will make a significant dent in this target, made possible by our partnership with Crossroads Real Estate. Together we are focussed on making a sustainable difference, delivering our joint vision with Crossroads Real Estate to build a greener United Kingdom. We’re now reaching out to local councils and private partners who want to reduce the amount of plastic waste entering landfill sites.

Partner, James Routledge said: “As a firm, our goal is to help clients identify viable ways of reducing their carbon footprint and help them realise their net zero goals. Being part of an initiative, which takes waste plastic out of the supply chain, recycles it and subsequently uses the recycled product to reduce GHGs by 75% in one application, is something everyone at Fisher German is very proud to be part of.”
