Our Bedford team have set off on their leg of our epic Big 25 Challenge, walking and cycling challenge to help refurbish a room used by cancer patients at a Bedford hospital after having the relay baton passed to them by colleagues from our Bury St Edmunds team. They will be walking and cycling nearly 75 miles over four days to reach the Banbury office stopping at significant landmarks along the route.
The team has chosen the Primrose Unit at Bedford South Wing Hospital as its beneficiary. The funds raised during the Big 25 challenge will be used to help refurbish the Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) room.
This room is used to place semi-permanent PICC lines into patients’ main neck or arm valves to allow for delivery of chemotherapy and other drugs. The aim of the line is to reduce the need for cannulas and also for the delivery to be near to the heart to allow for better delivery of the medication. The process can be uncomfortable and having a relaxing room is much needed during this uncomfortable process during a patient’s cancer journey.
The charity, which is self-funded through general funds that are received via donations, legacies and grants, supports patients and staff within the Trust to provide a Gold Standard Care above and beyond NHS provision.
Rebecca Ruck-Keene, Partner and Head of Rural Property Management, said: “Primrose Unit is well-known in Bedford since it provides vital support and information to thousands of people throughout the area every year. The service is renowned in Bedford, and several team members have been personally impacted by the work this dedicated team does.
“We are also planning a cake sale for our neighbours on the business park to raise further funds.”
Charmaine Norrish, Fundraising Manager at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Charity, said: “The Charity Team at Primrose Unit is really excited about working with Fisher German on their Big 25 challenge.
“Our charity would not be able to provide support for patients without companies like Fisher German supporting us.”
The Big 25 challenge coincides with Fisher German undergoing a major rebrand, positioning it as a pioneering, driven consultancy with trusted experts who share knowledge across the business and provide substantial added value to clients.
The firm has also updated its external logo and colours to reflect a shift in mindset, a change in its growth strategy, and its future ambitions.
Big 25 legs have already seen colleagues travel by tandem bikes, unicycles, open water swimming, and even a conga line as part of the mammoth 2,400-mile journey between the offices.
