A huge well done to Abbie Mastris, Karen Mastris, Jo Morton, Ella Bradley and Kayleigh Firch, who recently joined hundreds of runners for the 8th Loughborough Colour Run at Charnwood College.
The Ashby team completed the colourful 5km course, taking on inflatable obstacles and clouds of colour powder while raising money for Living Without Abuse (LWA), a charity supporting adults and children affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence.
Together, the team raised an impressive £280 towards their £500 target and contributing to the event’s wider total of £3,259 for LWA. Every pound raised will help the charity continue providing specialist support, advice and advocacy to people who need it most.
For Abbie, this year’s event was especially meaningful. She said: “We have taken part in the Colour Run for the past three years, but this year felt extra special as I was asked to speak on stage as the ‘Survivors Voice’.
“I wanted to stand in front of people as a real-life example that it is possible to build a life after leaving an abuser, and that things can and do get better. Support is out there for victims, and I wanted to help spread that message.”
Abbie added: “Speaking on stage was nerve-racking, but if sharing my experience helps raise awareness or encourages even one person to reach out for support, then it was absolutely worth it. LWA helped me rebuild my confidence and gave me the space to speak openly about what I had been through.”
Jo Morton, Senior Business Co-ordinator, said the team was proud to support both Abbie and LWA: “The Colour Run was such a positive day for us as a team, but the real purpose was to stand alongside Abbie and help shine a light on the vital work LWA does every day.
“Abbie’s courage and determination are inspiring. Events like this help start important conversations, challenge stigma and remind people that support is available. She is a true champion.”
