Phil is employed as Landowner Liaison Officer, in the Utilities & Infrastructure team, working with landowners and other land managers to raise awareness of the pipelines under Fisher German’s management.He has worked in recreational land management and natural resource management for both the private and public sectors across the UK since 1982. Phil’s degree is in Ecology and Wildlife Management, and he also holds a post-grad diploma in GIS. Much of Phil’s career has been spent with Hampshire County Council, managing nature reserves and public access across the county. His most recent work has involved management of the Basingstoke Canal, and advising on biodiversity matters for Basingstoke local planning authority. Phil’s pastimes did include potholing and volleyball, including coaching the GB Paralympic team, but he now focuses on less strenuous pursuits around walking, fishing, and woodwork. He still follows volleyball, and takes every opportunity to watch other team sports with his family.

Joanna works in the Hungerford office, primarily for one of our major utilities clients, liaising with third parties and landowners. Prior to joining Fisher German, Joanna lived in Brussels for many years where she worked for Ernst & Whinney (now EY), and subsequently for Grant Thornton’s European Community Office as a PA/Office Manager. She also worked for Total Petroleum Services in London for a time as a Finance Assistant and has also studied art at Sotheby's in London. Joanna has a teenage daughter and many interests including art, music, gardening, walking and reading.

Matthew is the Landowner Liaison Officer for one of Fisher German’s pipeline clients. As part of the team at Hungerford, he raises awareness of the pipelines and the procedures for working safely near them by visiting the owners and occupiers of land on the pipeline routes. Matthew attended Seale-Hayne Agricultural College, studying Rural Resource Management and Agriculture. Having worked on various arable and livestock farms in the UK, Matthew has also worked on dairy farms in New Zealand and an arable farm in Western Australia during harvest. Matthew joined Fisher German in 2014 following 14 years with Hampshire County Council managing Public Rights of Way. Originally from Suffolk, Matthew now lives in Hampshire with his wife and three children. He enjoys all things outdoors and regularly plays five a side football.

Andrew, Chief Operating Officer for Fisher German LLP, has 20 years' experience working within Fisher German initially on the rural professional side of the business before specialising in utility and infrastructure management. In addition to his role as head of the utilities and infrastructure sector, he is also a member of the management team and has responsibility for the firm's business support operations Andrew is a member of the Managing Partners Forum, Institute of Directors and RICS. He chairs the Midlands Branch of the Pipeline Industries Guild, is a board member of the National Forest Charitable Trust and chairs the Heart of the National Forest Development Board. Andrew has two young children and his interests outside of work are sports orientated, be it coaching at Ashby Rugby Club or training for some form of endurance challenge.

Richard is the Managing Director of the LinesearchbeforeUdig service which is a Fisher German Joint Venture. Richard’s role involves the management of an online service (available at www.lsbud.co.uk) to help ensure the protection of over 40 members’ assets against over 1.2 million enquiries per annum. Richard has been in the Utilities & Infrastructure sector for over four years, previously managing the Mainline Pipelines contract, handling third party enquiries, maintenance and major projects as well as contract queries, time analysis and invoicing. He sits on the Ashby Utilities management team and is responsible for graduate recruitment and training across the firm, using his experience as a registered APC assessor. He is an active member of the Pipeline Industries Guild Midlands Branch. Having achieved his degree at the Rural Agricultural University, Richard moved to the business in 2007, initially qualifying (for RICS and CAAV examinations) in the Rural Consultancy sector. He lives in North West Leicestershire with his young family. He enjoys all aspects of rural pursuits and sport generally, including golf, rugby and football.

Ben has 27 years’ experience practising as a land agent throughout eastern of England, both in private practice and in the public sector. He joined the Newark office from Michael Murphy Associates and currently works primarily on land acquisition, compensation and estate management for the Environment Agency under the new contract (Ben worked as an in-house surveyor for the EA’s Anglian Region between 1999 and 2006, and as an external consultant ever since). Ben is married with two daughters, and lives in the flat lands of Holbeach. When his girls allow him, he indulges his passions for shooting, fishing and music.

Most recently, Peter worked for a large potato and daffodil grower in Cornwall. In his spare time, Peter enjoys cycling as well as watching a variety of sports and travelling, when time allows.

Daniel’s role as a Land Officer within the Utilities and Infrastructure team provides support in the feasibility and delivery of projects across a range of utilities and clients. Primarily, Daniel’s work focuses on third party legal acquisitions for new infrastructure, alongside negotiating the freehold and leasehold transfer of land. In addition to this, he is responsible for identifying and managing the statutory consents process to facilitate the construction phase of schemes. Daniel joined Fisher German in January 2017 from an electrical infrastructure company, working on behalf of major utility providers and Distribution Network Operators in the South and East of England. Lately, Daniel has been involved with a major project in the East which will establish the first electrical interconnection across the Suffolk and Essex peninsulas. Having obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree, Daniel moved into the utilities sector in 2014 and currently lives on the Suffolk Coast. In his spare time, he is a keen fisherman and a member of a local angling syndicate. Daniel also goes hiking in the Lake District when time allows.

Matthew is a Land Officer in the Utilities and Infrastructure team providing support to a number of clients. Matthew has worked within the industry for over eight years, joining Fisher German in January 2017 from an electrical infrastructure contractor working on behalf of major utility providers, renewable energy companies and distribution network operators in the East of England. His knowledge of the electrical network, negotiating legal documentation and understanding the rights associated with the equipment enables him to support the client’s best interests. Whilst undertaking a BSc (Hons) Real Estate Management degree at the Anglia Ruskin University, Matthew will begin his APC to become a Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. Matthew currently lives in Suffolk and enjoys a variety of sports, notably football where he is a qualified coach.

Phil has been in the oil and gas business for over 30 years in various engineering consultancy and client Operational roles. His role as Linewatch Manager is to assist in the promotion of greater awareness of high pressure buried pipelines in the UK both owned and/or operated by the members. He chairs a group of pipeline operator clients aiming to continually reduce the risks of damage to the pipeline systems and to report on the national infringement data in conjunction with UKOPA and HSE. A Yorkshireman by birth and having spent time overseas and in Wales, he now lives in Wokingham within reach of both daughters and a few local hostelries.

Away from work, the knees now object to hockey so he sticks to mountain biking and golf, with some shooting, skiing and travel when time permits.

Samantha moved to the Worcester office in June 2015, after initially joining Fisher German and Ashby Utilities in September 2012. Samantha completed a Postgraduate Diploma in REALM at Harper Adams University; a slight change in career path after originally completing a degree in Interior Architecture. Samantha now undertakes work for a number of different clients including National Grid Electricity and Gas, Mainline Pipelines Ltd and Wales and West Utilities. Samantha is also undertaking a part-time secondee role as a Lands Officer within the South West National Grid team, where she works from the Gloucester office. Samantha is dealing with the National Grid Gas UK Distribution for the region, which is a varied role that includes the project management of external suppliers along with managing various refurbishment schemes. Samantha is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers. Outside of work, Samantha enjoys socialising with friends, helping out on the family farm and is a keen baker!

Seb is a Partner of the firm and is based at our Ashby de la Zouch office. Seb acts for clients in the water, gas and electricity industries. He is a qualified Chartered Surveyor, Agricultural Valuer and PRINCE2 Project Manager. Seb joined Fisher German in 2003 and after spending five years in the Market Harborough office managing rural landed estates, he moved to the Ashby office into the Utilities & Infrastructure team. Since then, he has been involved in a diverse range of infrastructure schemes involving referencing, negotiations of access for surveys, preparation of consents and notices, compensation, licences and pipe and cable laying. In addition, he also undertakes Injurious Affection claims and specialises in large property portfolio and development claims. He negotiates land rights for clients and has used compulsory purchase options to ensure the required rights are delivered. Seb has been involved with the firm's GIS delivery for many years and is now involved in the specification and delivery of both GIS services and data manipulation and processing for GIS projects. Seb has also been heavily involved in the development and innovation of Fisher German’s online project management application and online mapping system. He has managed the review of the firms Ordnance Survey compliance and is the representative for the Fisher German OS Partnership. In recent years, Seb has held positions of office as National Chairman of the National Youth Panel of the Pipeline Industries Guild and Young Valuers Chairman of Midland Counties Agricultural Valuers Association. He is also an examiner for the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers and for Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He also is a chairman for Fisher German’s internal mock APC assessments held in the spring and autumn. In 2015 Seb was invited to become a member of the partnership as a Fixed Share Partner.

Giles joined Fisher German in 2013 and is a rural practice chartered surveyor with over 15 years' experience. He specialises in providing advice to the utility and infrastructure sector throughout the south east of England advising clients in areas of land rights to include wayleaves, easements, leases and freehold acquisition, compulsory purchase and compensation and the implications of the Planning Act 2008. His extensive knowledge of the electricity, water, sewerage and gas sectors has been gained over 20 years having worked for a utility company until 2000 when he joined the family company, leading to him setting up his own company providing specialist advise to the utility sector in 2008. Giles comes from a farming background and is the son of a chartered surveyor. He is married with three boys and enjoys golf, shooting and rugby and is a qualified RFU coach.

Iain joined Fisher German in the summer of 2014, in the Utilities department. He graduated in Agricultural Land and Farm Management at Harper Adams University in 2010 and then went on to work for a local chartered surveyors, based in Leicestershire, for four years. During this period, he completed a post graduate qualification in Rural Enterprise and Land Management, passed his Central Association of Agricultural Valuers examinations and became a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Having being brought up on a farm in Leicestershire and being a member of Young Farmers, Iain has a keen interest in general rural life and is a keen sports enthusiast, especially rugby. He currently trains and plays for the local Ashby rugby team.

Sam initially assisted Matthew Hodgetts with the management of various estates in the Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire areas and when qualified in 2012 moved across to the Utilities and Infrastructure team. Sam’s time is now spent working on behalf of various utility companies around the country facilitating the maintenance and installation of different utility apparatus. Outside work, Sam spends most of his time watching and playing a variety of different sports but more specifically he trains and plays for the local Ashby rugby team. When the weather permits, he also plays golf.

Day-to-day professional work involves securing land and rights, dealing with compensation and managing the land and planning aspects of capital projects throughout the Midlands and into Wales. Having obtained a Land Management degree at Harper Adams, James joined Fisher German in 2002 and initially worked in the Rural Sector dealing with estate management, rural property sales, valuations and other general practice work. James also assists in the development of placement students and graduates by acting as an APC Counsellor and Supervisor. Originally a Kentish Man, James now lives in Staffordshire with his wife and two children and enjoys sailing, kayaking and mountain biking in his spare time.

Clare is one of our departmental heads and specialises in the management, promotion and construction of linear apparatus, with direct experience in the provision of IT solutions to complex client management portfolios. Clare has recently been advising clients on the implications of the Planning Act 2008 on their wayleaves, easements, leases and freehold acquisition, with the introduction of the IPC. Her extensive knowledge of the utility and pipeline industry has been gained over 20 years of practice. Clare has been with the partnership since leaving Cirencester and became a partner in 1998. Her family background is in quarrying although minerals are not one of her areas of expertise. Married, with two children, life outside the partnership is largely taken up with the childrens' sporting activities rather than hers, although she can be regularly seen supporting Leicester Tigers at Welford Road!

James undertakes a range of professional matters, predominantly working as part of the Utilities & Infrastructure team in Banbury, whilst also undertaking valuations and general professional practice work. James was promoted to an Associate of Fisher German in April 2017. After graduating from Harper Adams University with a degree in Rural Enterprise and Land Management, James then joined Fisher German in September 2013. James has gone on to qualify as a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers. Out of the office, James works on the family livestock and game farm in Northamptonshire. James is an enthusiastic clay and game shot and away from country pursuits, he is an avid Northampton Saints supporter whilst playing rugby and cricket himself.

Adrian is a rural practice chartered surveyor with 15 years' wide ranging post qualification experience. He specialises in providing advice to major utility companies and private scheme promoters throughout the UK in areas of land and rights acquisition, compensation and compulsory purchase for construction, management and promotion of linear apparatus. Family commitments permitting, Adrian still takes an active interest in anything sporting with a bat or ball, talks an excellent game of cricket and can often be found afloat or on the riverbank.

Matthew joined Fisher German in 2006, after qualifying as a chartered surveyor with Frank R Marshall in Cheshire. During his first seven years with the firm, he worked predominantly on the management of the Government Pipelines and Storage System contract and became a Local Partner in 2013. Matthew is now the Contract Manager for the Total oil pipelines which are managed from our Ashby office. The main elements of the contract are organisation of pipeline and easement maintenance activities, landowner liaison, pipeline safety initiatives and managing 3rd party works being undertaken in close proximity to the pipelines. The Total contract team that report directly to Matthew include 3 pipeline maintenance technicians and a contract administrator. Matthew also oversees the asset creation work that Fisher German undertake for Severn Trent Water from the Ashby office. This work includes the acquisition of rights in land for capital projects, landowner consultation, managing land access issues, landowner compensation and regular client reporting. Matthew is married to Mel and they have Border Terrier to keep them exercised and entertained. In his spare time Matthew is a keen racing driver and until recently was a member of the management team of the Caterham 7 owners club with responsibility for organising the club’s motor sport activities.
