bespoke IT systems utilities

The Fisher German utilities and infrastructure team are making quite a name for themselves in the field of bespoke IT systems for the utilities sector.

The Utilities and Infrastructure team manage critical assets and projects for our clients and having a suite of bespoke systems based on detailed knowledge of service delivery is essential. The systems are continually developed to adapt to changing requirements and functionality. By implementing these systems we have been able to ensure data integrity and allow complete transparency to our clients.
So why is all this development so important? The Utilities and Infrastructure team look after pipelines which reach 100 BAR and pump 10 tonnes a minute. That’s enough to fill a road tanker in 3 minutes and these pipelines run through heavily populated residential areas at circa 1m deep. was the first system to be developed 10 years ago. It identifies utility assets above and below ground and has 35 members’ line data protected by the system. This search facility enquiry is critical for people in the industry who are planning works and need to check in advance what they might damage or disrupt. is approaching its first anniversary and was developed to enhance
These systems have now received over 5 million enquiries and cover 200,000 kms of assets including underground and overhead transmission and distribution electricity networks, transmission gas/oil pipelines and fibre optic cable networks.
Through our work with major utility clients, Fisher German identified the need for two systems to offer comprehensive service delivery for the management of apparatus and the project management of one off asset projects. Fisher German developed Pipeline Report System (PRS) and the Utilities Database (UDB) which have been in use since 2010. Both are internet hosted systems and allow 24/7 access from anywhere.
The most recent system launched by the team offers a unique and comprehensive online GIS mapping solution, fully integrated into our project management and asset management systems. Integrated Mapping Solution (IMS) - the first of its kind in the UK - is a completely paperless, audited real-time system. Technical specialists within Fisher German are constantly updating maps and documents on the system so that the team in the field have real time, accurate records 24/7. Records can be updated from the field to PRS and UDB with the GIS mapping being updated by our fully trained GIS staff. This is all delivered out to our clients via a webpage, offering a transparent and real time view of each project.
Throughout the development of our systems data security has been at the forefront and access to the systems is fully controlled and regularly reviewed with third party security specialists.
Andrew Bridge, Utilities and Infrastructure Sector Head, comments: “Innovation and investment in people and systems remain a focal point for the sector.
We have some great forward thinking staff working closely with our system development partners to design these unique solutions which provide the high levels of service we strive to provide to all our clients. Understanding the clients’ requirements and continually reviewing why we do what we do has been the key to the success.”
