Small Farmers Scheme

June 2013

rural consultancy news
Under the current CAP reform the UK will no longer make direct payments to claimants who have less than 5 hectares of land or where the annual claim in less than €200.

A new scheme will be introduced to replace all existing direct payments with an annual fixed payment of between €500 - €1,000 per annum irrespective of farm size.

Farmers wishing to participate in the Small Farmers Scheme are required to submit an application by 15 October 2014 - failure to do so will result in their application being excluded from the scheme.

Farmers will be required to retain the number of hectares corresponding to the number of entitlements held and once activated in 2014 will be considered as activated for the duration of the farmer in the scheme.

Any active entitlements within the scheme will be non-transferable although farmers who inherit entitlements shall be eligible for participation in the scheme provided they meet the requirements and inherit all of the entitlements.

There are likely to be significant simplifications with regard to cross compliance requirements and exception from greening.
