RTI update - harvest casuals and casual beaters

June 2013

RTI concession announced
HMRC has now confirmed that where an employer has fewer than 50 employees they will be able to submit the real time information required within a tax month (5th of the month) instead of within the 7-day period set out by the real time information regulations.

This concession has been introduced to allow businesses time to adapt to RTI, although it is likely that in time this concession will be removed and employers will be required to submit the information on a weekly basis.

Employers are being urged to start to collate the information required now before harvest and the shoot season begins to allow time for the data to be uploaded onto the payroll system.

The information required includes:

  • Employee's name and address
  • Date of birth
  • National Insurance Number
  • Current tax code
  • Payment amount
HMRC have emphasised that this recent concession in terms of reporting does not affect the current agreement relating to NIC and that whilst tax will not be deducted at source the payments are taxable.
