HS2 Draft Environmental Statement Consultation announced

May 2013

rural consultancy news

HS2 have today announced the Draft Environmental Statement Consultation for Phase One (London to Birmingham and Lichfield) of the proposed railway scheme.

The Draft Environmental Statement describes HS2’s route design as it currently stands and the alternatives that have been studied. Plans are provided that show the proposed mitigation measures including in some locations quite substantial sound attenuation bunds which will result in significant loss of agricultural land.

A further consultation has been launched on Design Refinement in relation to a number of changes to the design of the route.

Both consultations close on 11 July 2013, full documentation being available on the HS2 website.

In relation to these consultations, a further round of community forum events have been announced, running from 22 May to 29 June, these dates again being available on the HS2 website.

We are actively working with landowners to meet with HS2 and where practical make amendments to the published maps to mitigate the effects of the scheme on the property it crosses.  Leaving such negotiations until after the scheme has been submitted to Parliament later in 2013 potentially makes these negotiations much more difficult and costly.

Further information on the above and expert advice on all HS2 matters can be offered from offices in Stafford, Knutsford, Chester, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Banbury, Thame, Newark and Retford.
