High turnout for farm dispersal sale

October 2011

rural consultancy news

Strong commodity prices and reasonable yields resulted in an exceptional amount of interest at a recent farm machinery auction near Market Harborough.

Approximately 650 requests for sales brochures were received for the sale at Manor Farm, Blaston, which saw 80 lots go under the hammer. The majority of this was arable machinery with a small mixture of livestock equipment also included.

Buyers came from as far as northern England, Ireland and Scotland to view the items which were being sold on behalf of Philipson Estates. The well maintained equipment was a real credit to the retiring farm manager John Lane who has worked on Manor Farm since leaving school.

The successful sale saw all lots sell in little over 90 minutes, including 2004 Gregoire Besson SX DL 4m Folding Vari-Discs £3,200; 2003 Knight 3 in 1 4m Hydraulic Folding Triple Press £5,000; 1998 Opico Vario 7m Hydraulic Folding Breaker Rolls £4,500; 1997 Vaderstad Rapid 4m Trailed Fold Disc Drill £13,000; 2003 Knight 24m Trailed 3000 litre Sprayer £17,000. A selection of trailers, as expected, also achieved good prices with a 1997 Richard Weston 12 Tonne Grain Trailer making £5,700.

A 2006 New Holland TM190 Tractor with just 1300 hours on the clock made £40,000 before being shipped to Ireland and a 2009 Claas Arion 640 Tractor with 750 hours showing made £34,700.

The final lot of the day was a 2005 New Holland TX66 combine harvester which, with just 900 drum hours on the clock, was in excellent condition. It was finally sold for £78,000 with its new home being a farm in Aberdeenshire where there is still wheat to be combined.

Ian Calverley, of auctioneers Fisher German, comments “There has been a huge rise in demand for second hand farm machinery which prompted such a high turnout. Good prices are being achieved for all types of equipment as many of the buyers are vying for the same thing.”
