Farm dispersal auction causes a stir

October 2010

rural consultancy news

A farm dispersal auction of farm machinery and livestock equipment held by Fisher German at Roundhill Farm, Sutton in Ashfield caused quite a stir despite the torrential rain prior to proceedings. The sale attracted many prospective buyers from as far afield as Cork in Ireland, Flint in North Wales as well as County Durham.

The sale which was conducted on behalf of P & L A Comery, who is retiring from farming, saw 125 lots go under the hammer. A 1996 Claas Quadrant 1150 mini Heston baler attracted quite a crowd and was eventually snapped up for £8,000, whilst a 2006 New Holland TS100A with just 1400 hours on the clock made £23,000 and a well presented 1993 Massey Ferguson 390 complete loader with 2600 hours made £13,300.

As expected, with autumn approaching and seedbed preparations now fully underway, cultivation machinery attracted buyers, with top price of the day being £2,900 for a set of 3.2m Quivogne Apxe TL discs, whilst a trusty 3 furrow reversible Dowdeswell Plough made £720. A 2004 Amazon ZAM 1500 fertiliser spreader realised £1800 and a Case International Harvester 800 ME 900 litre sprayer made £1650.

A good selection of livestock equipment created much interest with calf feeders fetching £45 each and a galvanised creep feeder reaching £305 before the hammer went down.

Auctioneer Ian Calverley said, “It was a pleasure to sell such well kept farm machinery and the prices realised reflected the good quality of the equipment on offer.

“The turnout we have seen shows that there is a very high demand for good second hand machinery at the moment. The distance people are willing to travel to these sales is testament to that. We have another sale coming up before Christmas, and going by today I expect it to be just as successful”.

The next sale held by the Fisher German Retford office will be a complete dispersal of farm machinery at Willoughby Farm, Norwell, Newark on 25 November 2010.
