AMC lending 2016 - fresh opportunities for finance

March 2016

rural, planning

In the Spring of 2013 many predicted that the bottom of the interest rate graph had been reached but as we head into the Spring of 2016 the timing of the next interest rate rise is as difficult to foresee as ever.

As a result the cost of fixed rate loans is dipping below the level of Spring 2013 and farmers, landowners and rural businesses have another opportunity to borrow at competitive fixed rates of interest.

Variable Rates

Some argue that variable rates of interest also look settled, at least in the short term, and why not speculate that the Bank of England will continue to hold the base rate at its current level for the foreseeable future. On that premise 5 to 10 year money may be just as competitive at a variable rate of interest.

Long term borrowing

But who is brave enough to predict that longer term rates will hold at the same levels. If not, then there are lenders in the market prepared to lend longer than 10 years, and the AMC 30 year fixed rate loan is currently available at rates below 4% for some borrowers.

How to spend

Farmers and Landowners with 30 year money in mind have been taking up funding for:

  • Land purchases as some of the heat comes out of the market
  • Expansion of existing enterprises and buildings
  • Launching new projects
  • Developing marketing initiatives
  • Diversifying into new property and business sectors

Some are even building a nest egg for whenever the next business opportunity comes along!

Affordability

While fixed rates have a particular appeal for some rural businesses, for others a mixed variable and fixed rate loan offers the best of both worlds - a share of the low interest rate 'action' now, as well as a hedge against base rate rises in the future.

Ultimately fixed rates are not there to beat the market, but to match your budget, and to offer affordability, with the comfort of knowing that you can grasp the next business opportunity when it comes along.
