Fisher German has a wealth of experience in representing landowners' and occupiers' interests when threatened with compulsory purchase. From major infrastructure projects such as HS2 through to water pipe renewals; it is important that those affected by compulsory purchase seek early professional advice, when it may be possible to influence the position or design of the proposed route.

An experienced negotiator is vital as it is not only the acquisition process which needs professional handling; there may be many other implications including tax considerations.

We have been actively involved in advising landowners on a wide variety of projects including the following:

  • Road Schemes such as A46 Leicestershire/Nottinghamshire road widening, M6 Toll and A14
  • Rail Schemes such as the new High Speed Two (HS2) railway line between London, the West Midlands, Manchester and Leeds and West Coast mainline rail improvements
  • Flood mitigation works such as the Banbury Flood Alleviation Scheme
  • Utility projects including water pipe and electricity line schemes

On each project we have given clients advice from an early stage as to how best to protect their assets from the proposed scheme and secure the best settlement both financially and in mitigation to the continued use of the land once works have been completed.

We have a dedicated team of specialists who can offer professional advice if your property is affected by HS2. The team already represents a large number of property owners along the planned route.

February 2017

HS2 have received Royal Assent to their Hybrid Bill making now an official Act of Parliament giving them the powers they need to compulsory purchase land and construct the project from London to Birmingham, the section known as Phase 1.  This is a key milestone in the project and will have implications for 1000s of landowners.
