Fisher German - a leading expert in the renewable energy sector - has helped a major bank secure a coveted industry award.

Mark Newton, partner and head of renewable energy sector, played a key role in helping RBS / NatWest win the Skills Development Award at the Renewable Energy Association’s annual awards ceremony.

Over the past two years Mark Newton has used his extensive experience in the industry to train a total of 370 NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland bank managers to secure industry accreditation in the renewable energy sector.

NatWest beat competition from four other leading industry figures to secure the award for the company or organisation which had excelled in improving the skills base in the industry.

Fisher German was chosen to deliver the training after Ian Burrow, head of Agriculture and Renewables at RBS/NatWest, considered Fisher German to be the leading firm of Chartered Surveyors in the renewables sector.

Another key factor was Fisher German’s established relationship with the NFU as they are the only firm of Chartered Surveyors in England and Wales for whom it provides a renewable energy advice line for its 55,000 members called the Farm Energy Service.

Mark said: “I was delighted to see NatWest secure this award as a result of all the hard work its staff has put in over the past two years.

“The organisation really committed to ensuring its staff obtained the highest level of knowledge in relation to the renewables sector.

This will enable it to provide the highest quality advice to its customers for renewables lending and to make properly informed financial decisions.

As the leading authority in the renewable energy sector, Fisher German looks forward to continuing to advise NatWest and other major financial institutions as well as other major players in the world of renewable energy and carrying out due diligence reports on their renewables lending.”

Ian Burrow, head of agriculture and renewable energy at RBS, said: “We are delighted to have won the Skills Development Award at the Renewable Energy Awards and would like to extend our thanks to Mark Newton for the significant role he played in our success.

The knowledge that Mark imparted over a number of training courses to our mangers has been fundamental to them understanding the key issues around wind turbines and solar PV. This has allowed them to engage in meaningful discussions with customers considering investing in these technologies.”

Fisher German is nationally renowned for its work in renewable energy matters and has 14 offices throughout England.
