Planning team expands

May 2011

planning & construction news

Fisher German’s planning team continues to go from strength to strength. Six years ago the department consisted of just one planner but, despite challenging market conditions, it now has seven professional planners with a dedicated support team.

The team of in house planners has a wide range of expertise providing continuity of care and a sound knowledge base for their diverse range of clients.

Kay Davies, head of planning, believes that Fisher German’s diverse client base has contributed to the department’s expansion. The team’s client list includes, historic estates, such as Belvoir Castle. Estate and rural landowners are at the core of the work that the team get involved in. They also undertake work on residential development schemes ranging from small infill plots to large housing schemes and also offer a development plan monitoring service.

A substantial amount of work is derived from the 5 year land and planning framework agreement with Severn Trent Water, dealing with infrastructure planning for facilities such as water and sewage treatment works and pumping stations. This combined with a surge in renewable energy projects keeps them all very busy.

Renewables Revolution

Sustainability has been at the forefront of planning and environmental policy for sometime but the past three years has seen a significant growth in the number of renewable energy projects coming through the planning system.  The Feed in Tariffs (FiTs) and Renewable Heat Incentives (RHI), payable to renewable energy schemes by the Government, have influenced the rate and delivery of these projects.  The Fisher German planning team has firsthand experience of the rollercoaster ride of renewables.

  • 2008 Planning approval for the first wind turbine in the Peak District National Park
  • 2009 Consent for an anaerobic digestion scheme at the Stetchworth Estate
  • 2010 Approved planning consultants for Hallmark Power
  • 2010 Approval for major anaerobic digestion facility in Leicestershire
  • 2011 Approval for biomass boiler at Belvoir Castle
  • 2011 Permission secured for 5MW Solar Park, Northamptonshire
  • 2011 Currently handling 18 wind turbine planning applications ranging from 5kW to 1.5MW projects with 30 wind turbine feasibility studies underway or completed
Eco Dwelling

In addition to the renewable energy generation projects, the team has secured planning permission for an eco dwelling; The Dumble. The energy self-sufficient house in a rural location near Ashbourne, Derbyshire was secured through the PPS7 exception clause and was the first such application to be granted without the Secretary of State calling for a Public Inquiry.
