RPA RLR mapping update project

16/06/2009

farmlandFrom the beginning of June and throughout the summer the RPA will be sending out new updated RLR Maps to all farmers or their agents in England.

The Mapping Update Project is taking place so that the RPA can bring the RLR in line with the most up to date Ordnance Master Map 2008 and aerial photography.

The new maps will benefit from improvements in positional accuracy of OS Surveying techniques, with the incorporation of real world changes such as new roads or housing developments.

Permanent ineligible features (ie ponds and buildings) will now be captured on the maps and their area deducted from the total field size in order to show the maximum SPS eligible area for each land parcel. All parcels have been mapped to permanent physical boundaries.

Each map received by the farmer or agent will need to be carefully checked and agreed with the RPA within 28 days of receiving the RLR Mapping Update pack. If changes are required these will need to be submitted on an RMU1 form.

These new maps will have implications for the 2010 SPS claims, where the form will be pre-populated using the information agreed with the RPA from the Mapping Update Project.

The RPA has chosen the busiest time in the agricultural calendar for farmers to check their new maps and make any amendments within the 28 day deadline.
