Woodlands for sale

Over 70 years ago many landowners granted leases to the Forestry Commission for their woodlands at a peppercorn rent.

The Government has, for some time, been selling off these leases either to the original landowner or on the open market. The value of the Forestry Commission’s long lease is normally equivalent to a normal freehold value.

Fisher German believes that, due to the credit crunch, the Government may be looking over the next year or two to sell more assets which will include these Forestry Commission leases.

If landowners have woodland that is subject to these leases and wish to buy them back, they should contact Fisher German in order that they can try to include them in this year’s or next year’s round of sales by the Forestry Commission.
