What House' Awards

02/12/2005

Local family owned house building company Thomas Samuelson Ltd has scooped a bronze award in "the Best Small House Builder category of this year's Daily Telegraph What House Magazine Awards, the Oscars of the house building industry.

Together with its architects, The David Scotton Partnership, it has, in its first development, Coombes Yard in Sibbertoft, created a complex of three varied houses that provides a

model for sensitive redevelopment within an existing village. Built on a brown field site previously occupied by unsightly farm silos, this courtyard grouping demonstrates an attractive combination of visual cohesiveness, provided by the consistency of materials and detailing, and complexity, achieved by the use of individual plan types, massing and varied rooflines.

The judges said of the development "it fully justifies the claim of the directors that their philosophy is to build each house as if they were going to occupy it themselves, and to hear them explaining each detail of their creations, and to experience their obvious enthusiasm and commitment is simply inspirational. Sometimes photographs cannot do a development justice and this is certainly the case at Coombes Yard where the quality of the overall ambience, the craftsmanship and the enthusiastic response of the purchasers (who were delighted to welcome us into their homes) justifies the award to this new small house builder".

Thomas Samuelson has nearly completed its next development in the sought after village of East Farndon, overlooking Market Harborough, which is being marketed by rural property consultants Fisher German.  This development is on the old site of the Bell Public House and the Bell Press.

The Bell has been renovated and extended to a very high standard with a most attractive breakfast kitchen, three reception rooms, five bedrooms, three of which, are en-

suite, with a further family bathroom. There is in addition the original cellarfrom the public house.

Mulberry House is an individually designed new build on the site of the old printing works.  The house is arranged over three floors mainly brick with hand crafted oak framing and Suffolk boarding.  The house enjoys lovely views over open countryside.  It has a double height breakfast kitchen, three other downstairs rooms along with 4 bedrooms, which are all ensuite.  In addition there is a double garage with an excellent bonus room over.  Mulberry House is being marketed at £650,000.
