Corporate social responsibility (CSR)
Fisher German recognise four main drivers to CSR
All of these drivers identify a wealth of ways in which organisations can introduce and implement CSR activities and we approach ours by way of 3 main headings
Fund raising and sponsorship
As well as individuals within Fisher German supporting a number of charities including children, medical and adult support, Fisher German as a firm also encourage and support annual challenges which really demonstrate the steel and determination of employees. As by way of an example, in 2007, a team of 18 climbers and support team completed the tough 3 Peaks Challenge in 24 hours and raised over £20,000 for The National Deaf Children’s Society. In 2008, we are attempting the 4 Peaks Challenge in 48 hours and in doing so will raise much needed funds for 'Billys' a children’s cancer care charity and Bowel Cancer UK.
Community and educational support
At Fisher German, we feel strongly about supporting and putting something back into the community for children and young adults alike. We are involved in a number of interesting and mutually rewarding initiatives such as;
Right to read - 'One hour's reading help per week, over a 12 week period, can improve a child's reading age by up to 6 months.' Sixteen Fisher German employees have volunteered for the right to read scheme, which involves the team visiting schools to help children up to the age of 11 with their reading abilities.
Business mentoring – as well as helping young adults from the Princes Trust start up their own business and mentor them through their first few years, we also offer mentoring services to Northamptonshire Fresh Start Academy as well as supportive training sessions and speaker events for new entrants into farming.
Career talks – our partners are often invited into schools to talk about a career in chartered surveying and offer further help and guidance where requested.
Work experience – many young adults visit our offices and spend up to a week learning about working in a firm of chartered surveyors, often being taken out on site visits and shadowing surveyors in their day to day activities.
Professional development - several members of the Fisher German team offer professional academic support to graduate and post graduate students and we have a continuous professional development programme in place for all our trainee surveyors.
Environmental awareness
Having a team of renewable energy experts makes us very aware of how our actions can affect the environment. Our surveyors practice and advise on many renewable energy projects including wind farms, anaerobic digesters, solar panels and woodland plantations to name but a few with our farms department being in continuous consultation with farmers and land owners on how to implement conservation techniques on their land. We are active sponsors and supporters of the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust and have implemented a number of their proven research techniques in client estates across the country.

Within our 7 offices throughout the UK, we also adopt an internal 'reduce, re use, re cycle' approach. Where possible, we encourage a number of small steps when added together make a huge difference and are also looking into a number of other initiatives we can introduce, by way of an example we aim to;
In summary we understand that CSR is simply about doing the right thing. We don’t work to a 'strategy' but recognise that CSR is fundamental in the way we do business. Through our day to day activities we continue to remain aware of the needs of our employees, marketplace, community and the environment.
