The first Broadway Horse Trials was held on Sunday 8th May at Lybrook Farm, Broadway. With just under 300 entries the event attracted competitors from as far a field as Scotland, Yorkshire and Norfolk. Anthony Mayell, partner of Fisher German the main sponsors commented “I am absolutely delighted that the event has proved such an overwhelming success, appealing to accomplished event riders and local horse enthusiasts”.
The trials were held by kind permission of Mr & Mrs John Tabor, but it was their son Nigel’s vision and understanding of the demand for an event at introductory and pre-novice level, which resulted in the trial at his Broadway home. The newly built cross-country course was designed and constructed by Nigel and his team, and as the going was near perfect the course rode well with almost all of the competitors completing the event.
Another one day event will be held in the autumn, with plans to expand the May trials to a two day event in 2006. Sponsors Fisher German and Shires presented over 70 prizes to winners in 7 sections, and there was universal praise and thanks expressed to Nigel Tabor and his team for the professional and smooth running of this inaugural event. |
