On August 1st 2005 Linesearch II was launched live on ther World Wide Web, offering users free and instantaneous guidance as to whether the works they were proposing would impact on in excess of 4,200 km of buried high pressure pipeline.
Since the inception of Linesearch One in September 2003 the website has received in excess of 140,000 validated enquiries, with a current monthly rolling average of 13,000. Since January this year the numbers input has increased by 275%, leading to the development of a robust system that benefits both user and pipeline owner.
Following considerable investment by Fisher German, Linesearch II is specifically aimed at increasing safety and awareness for the general public and environment. There is a misconception that the site is purely relevant to utility companies working in the road, however, in excess of 90% of the pipelines covered on the site are located outside of the highway. As such there is a responsibility on anybody associated with works that could affect the integrity of this apparatus.
Failing to identify a pipeline could lead to serious consequences with severe financial implications.
For landowners, farmers, professionals or contractors Linesearch is able to assist by identifying if your proposals are likely to affect any of the members’ pipelines. Current members include Esso Petroleum Co Ltd, Mainline Pipelines Ltd, Government Pipelines and Storage System, Manchester Jetline Ltd, BPA, CONOCOPHILLIPS and Total UK.
