Is this a Recruitment Drive?
Given the current crisis the Rural Payments Agency (RPA) is in and the number of disgruntled customers telephoning them it can not be easy recruiting the large numbers of staff they need. One has to question whether this latest news story covered by most news agencies including the BBC is just a new recruitment drive!
The RPA, part of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and responsible for administering millions of pounds in agricultural payments to farmers, said it was investigating claims that staff leapt naked from filing cabinets, had sex in office toilets, held break-dancing competitions during working hours and fought in a reception area. The antics emerged after some members of staff were caught on CCTV cameras.
An RPA spokesman said: "Allegations of serious misconduct by some agency and permanent staff at our Newcastle office is the subject of an ongoing internal investigation. Disciplinary action and a dismissal have already taken place and further action is pending."
Having a number of clients still trying to correct gross miscalculations in their 2005 claims, this news is not going down very well with many of our farmer clients.
